Had a hard talk with our compassionate doctor....don't really want to go into details but our lives are forever changed without a huge miracle. I appreicaite the prayers and I trust God regardless of the outcome...but things are bad neurologically. Physically she is doing good overall, no big concerns, However the discussion I had tonight was one that Jon & I have had for the past few days and
it is hard. Basically Selah will live and breath on her own with a trach (since she doesn't cough or gag) feeding tube but all the movements we see are really basic brain stem activity. They are great but since they are not combined with some of the other things... it doesn't give us much.... We will be making many decisions in the next few days/weeks as we set our aftercare up. I appreciate your care and wanting to encourage me with various stories but every case is different and it doesn't really encourage me at all. Our doctor is a man of faith who led prayer for us yesterday and prayed from his heart for us today. He is just honest I know he would love to be wrong and hopes there is a miracle but miracles dont' always happen the way we want them to. He still says we'll know more as time goes by, and there is some hope for more change but as time goes by and she does so well in some ways, it makes the neuro stuff that much harder. I trust in God although my heart is breaking... If you feel the need to give me any advice please resisit it.....Just pray that God will still do a miracle for our sweet girl.
I have no stories - I know how it feels to hear those stories. People mean well but it hurts. Just know that YOUR FAMILY has to make whatever choices are necessary for YOUR family based on YOUR situation. We are praying for you - that's all we can say. That, and we are so incredibly sorry for all of this. it is shocking how life can change in a moment...we are so very sorry.
ReplyDeletepraying for you and for your beautiful daughter!!
ReplyDeletePraying the God of all peace will be near you as you seek Him.
ReplyDeleteYvonne I have no advice for as you say each case is different but what I do have is love and prayers for whatever you all decide that you have peace.

ReplyDeleteContinuously Praying for Selah.
ReplyDeleteWe have no idea what God's plan is for little Selah, but she is in our hearts and our prayers every single day. Her life itself is a miracle; you finding her is a miracle; her time with you is a miracle. These are all the miracles of her life, even if her life didn't culminate in many years but only a few short ones. And yet...we still have no idea what God has in mind for her since she is still with us. I pray and pray he will show you his plans and calm your fears.
ReplyDeleteYours,
DD
Love, hugs, and lots of prayers coming your way for Sweet Selah from Colorado!
ReplyDeleteI've been praying for believing medical professionals to be by her side and am so
glad to read that you have a doctor after your own hearts!!
May God be glorified every step of the way through this difficult time.
I went to SEC, but not sure we were there at the same time. I was there from 1991-1993. I heard of your story on the SEC 'early 90's' group on Facebook and it just broke my heart. You and your husband are such compassionate people to give a home to these precious kids who have nobody. God bless you. I have been keeping up with your updates about Selah from the start, and I've been praying for her, but also asking God to give you and your husband peace in your hearts, knowing that none of us are perfect, and accidents do happen, even to God's people. I will keep praying for Selah and your family. I can't imagine the sadness you've felt. Be strong and know that God is with you, and always will be, whatever the outcome may be.

ReplyDeleteMuch love to you and your family as you travel this heartbreaking road.
ReplyDeleteI am just so sorry, we will continue to pray
ReplyDeleteI know its hard to hear people say "but I heard this story and this person had success" when my daughter was diagnosed with cancer, I both loved hearing success rate stories and also hated it because nobody was going through EXACTLY what we were going through. That being said, I did learn to find hope in hearing other peoples triumphs, because truly...you just never know. I have been following the caring bridge page of a couple that was in a severe auto accident and they had traumatic brain injuries. In the early days of the blog the doctors were offering very little hope, and even in the days to come...they were clear that they didn't expect much. A year later, there have been many small miracles and a man that I thought would never speak again...is doing so. Here is a link to the caringbridge page. Someday you might want to read of someone elses journey and though some of this blog is heartbreaking...it is also so very inspiring: http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/andrewandaliciakratzat
ReplyDeletemy prayers are with your family.
I am an adoptive mom also. Just letting you know I am so sorry you are going through this. Thinking of you in this difficult time.

ReplyDeleteWe are storming heaven still here in Louisiana! GOD IS ABLE! and you are right He does not always do miracles the way we want them. Praying for your miracle for your girl and understanding. Praying comfort and hugs to you and your husband.
ReplyDeletePraying for you, your family and your sweet baby girl!
ReplyDeletePraying you all feel God's loving arms around you at this time.
ReplyDeleteI'll just keep praying for you all...
ReplyDeletePraying for peace for your beautiful family and for the comfort that only God can give. No one expects you to look at the glass as half full, you deserve as much time as you personally need to grieve the hope you have lost. I just want to let you know that so many of us are grieving with you and though you do not know us, we feel some of the void you are feeling. My prayers are also with your dear husband as well.
ReplyDeletecontinuing to pray...
ReplyDeletecontinuing to pray, even through the night when I wake to feed the baby.

ReplyDeleteJust loving on you all and praying..
ReplyDeleteSometimes the biggest miracles are not the ones we were asking God for. Whatever her neurological function, I promise you that you will still love being her Mommy, and in fact, you will have an even deeper love and appreciation for her. Hang in there, God knows what He is doing <3 I will keep praying for Selah and for all of you <3 - Stephanie (friend of Lindy and mommy to Isaac, now in heaven, who ended up trach/vent dependent due to his heart and had a g-j tube)
ReplyDeleteI don't want to give advice but do know that even if she has significant brain damage, you will see some improvement in her over time. My son is brain damaged from his near-drowning and it took us a long, long time to get to a good place, but life is ok now. Praying that you'll have the strength to get through this horribly difficult time and that good will come from it in ways you cannot comprehend now. www.samuelsmiracle.com
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry...I will continue to pray for your precious daughter.
ReplyDeleteContinuing to pray for strength for your family and healing for your little girl.

ReplyDeleteMay the God of Grace and Compassion give you wisdom and peace right now and in the days ahead.
ReplyDeleteI have no words and haven't since the beginning of this hard road. I just continue to pray that God would fill you with his peace as you take one hour at a time.

ReplyDeleteI continue to pray for you and your family and Selah. I think through out the day while I'm at work and having normal everyday conversations and frustrations - you all are living out something so difficult. You are being lifted up to the throne. He is faithful to help you with the decisions that need to be made. He loves you.
ReplyDeletePraying for your little girl and for your family as you make hard decisions. May you feel Gods strong arms holding you steady through this time.

ReplyDeleteWe are so sorry. I know you will make good decisions and Selah will get excellent care, as she already is now. All of you are on our minds here.
ReplyDeleteBeen praying since I heard about this last week. Lifted your family up in prayer during church on Sunday. And I will keep at it. Regardless of the decision, I know you will need continued prayers, months down the road. May God continue to carry you through this unbearable time.
ReplyDeleteI've followed your blog since you first committed to add the last two children to your family. I am a Reeces Rainbow advocate and mom. If there was ever a family that is deserving of mercy, grace and a miracle, it is yours. I mean that with all sincerity. I pray for peace and wisdom for your family. I pray that Selah's story will lead to more families learning about Reeces Rainbow and considering adoption of a special needs child. I've been praying since I heard the news of the accident and will continue. Thank you for the frequent updates.

Paying for God to be with you and carry you through this difficult time. Praying for God to help guide to the right decisions for Selah's care over the next weeks, months and years.
ReplyDeleteI feel so bad for your family and have been praying that God gives your direction and peace.
ReplyDeleteOur family has just traveled a hard road with a very sick child. Can't give you any instant "feel good" words. I am praying that God will draw you closer to Him and will allow you to see things through His eyes as much as possible. Praying that you will literally feel His presence and He will give you rest. Praying that precious Selah will feel your and God's almighty love from behind the veil of injury. Hope and love to your family.
