Busy Few Days....

WOW!  It's Saturday 12-13-14 in fact.....boy have we been busy!  Wednesday we went given a van that we can modify for Selah's use.

Thursday we had our ONE & ONLY Christmas Play practice....No speaking parts, the kids will act out the story of Jesus's birth while a narrator tells the story and the congregation joins in with singing at various spots.  I wrote it along with our Music pastor Guy Canady and I have to say it is simple but very beautiful.  This is my first time directing a Christmas play and certainly the first time writing one!!!   Shad and Sam will be Wise men (Shad holding on to Sam).   Sarah and Selah will be a part of
"heavenly host" in beautiful angel costumes our nurse Rose bought them.  Sam's favorite cabbage patch boy doll (sent to him by one of my readers) will be Baby Jesus....it's going to be sweet:)

Thursday night was the Habitat for Humanity party.  We were presented by Florida Hospital of Zephyrhills  with a check to buy an industrial refrigerator!  Those folks are just great, they've worked on our home & they are a great hospital.  We experienced them also when we had to take Selah in on a weekend to check her arm out.  We were in and out in two hours!!!  We really appreciate Florida Hospital of Zephyrhills!

We were also given a washer and dryer by a company that has also helped on the house.  Angelo's Recycled Materials of Zephyrhills has been bringing in truck loads of dirt to build up the foundation and the property of the new house.  It's in a low area (like most of Florida) and just like where we live now, it's near the Hillsborough River, so the property tends to get a little wet.   They've been out there since the beginning hauling tons of dirt in to ensure we don't have any flooding.

We also got to spend some time with some of the volunteers who work on our house during the week.  They are RV'ers from all over the USA who come to Florida for the winter.  Many are skilled retired men and woman who have lots of experience building homes.  We met a couple out at the house and again at the party that the husband taught Vision Therapy to kids just like Sam and Sarah.  We talked "shop" with him.  It's not very often we meet someone who really understands our kids!

During the party, Steve had to leave and go take his LAST final for this semester.  Then he was rushing home to try to go to bed early as he planned on meeting his friends at 2:45 AM to drive to Disney to take part in a commercial as an extra.  Living in Florida, our kids have the opportunity to go to all the theme parks and beaches a lot, something most folks don't get to do.   Every so often there is some type of free deal.  Well this was going to be one for the record books.  He and eight of his friends were going to be extras in a commercial shot at Disney.  There was much care taken in finding clothes (no logos allowed)  a lot of planning went into things....    I got up with him at 2 am and by the time he was ready, some of the friends had driven up.  As they were waiting they got a text from one of the guys.....he had hit a cow!  Really totaled his SUV!   It was really awful, no one but the cow (poor thing) was hurt but everyone was shaken up.  INCLUDING ME!!!!!    Steve had originally plan on spending the night with his friend and then driving to pick up the van as they needed two vehicles.  I didn't want him to do that since I knew they wouldn't go to sleep early and at least get a few hours of sleep before it was time to get up.  I'm so glad that I didn't let him spend the night!  I was upset enough even tho no one got hurt and then when Jon reminded me Steve could have been in the car.....let's just say I needed an anti-anxiety pill to go to sleep!

So Friday we all slept in.  thankfully it was Jon's day off so he remembered to take Shad to school!  It was about 11 am before I wondered about that.....   Then we all got ready and went to see our friend's SUV...boy it looked bad.  I'm so grateful that everyone was ok!!!1

We then went by the house and guess what?  Part of the roof is on!!!!

We took Jon out to eat at Subways for his 51st birthday.  He was not too thrilled with it LOL  but I will make up for it later.  Then I had to go shopping for the church.  I bought all the things to decorate the church for Christmas.  This year I threw away quite a bit of stuff that was looking rough.  I'm not into keeping things once they've outlived their usefulness.  Near our new house there is a church that has the absolute ugliest flower arrangements on it's  porticos.  I have threatened to go and grab them and throw them away!  I'm sure someone's great grandmother made them and left them there....50 years ago and everyone is afraid to do anything to do cause it might make someone mad.....  Anyhow stuff like that  drives me BATTY!!!!!   If something is useless and worn, let it go!  Sometimes it is better to have nothing than to have something that is worn out..   So I let some things go and bought a few simple things to grace the foyer of the church along with lots of cleaning supplies.  Steve went with me and he pushed our family buggy and I pushed the church's buggy.  But I got everything done:)

Later that night Jon and I went for a walk around the hospital which has about 50 Christmas trees up and lit.  It was a beautiful, crisp night.

We came home to Movie & Popcorn night so I snuggled Sarah while she fell asleep in my arms....nothing better than that!

Recently I read a blog about an adoptive child who has a hard time being "still".  That was Sarah after we got her home and she got some strength and gained weight, she went from lying quietly in our arms to being a crazy girl, twirling and playing on the flood till she'd fall asleep with exhaustion.  We think she finally felt FREE....and healthy so she didn't want to be held too much.  But NOW.....she wants me a lot, especially at night.   If I try and walk past her, she reaches her hand out to grab my clothes.  I really find it endearing even if it means I have to spend a few minutes cuddling her before I can get anything done.  She loves to hold mine or Jon's hand....it just brings tears to our eyes to see how she trusts us.

So the last few days have been so very busy but good!

Today I finished decorating and also did a little shopping for our NY trip. We are Florida folks so most of our clothes are thin and includes shorts  & flip flops.   Luckily most of us have some winter clothes for those few weeks of "winter" here.  Sam and Sarah have all grown out of all their "winter clothes" that we bought while we were in NY after the accident in 2012.  They were able to wear them last winter here but now they are both in size 6 instead of size 4.  I'm trying to get them a winter wardrobe together:)   It wouldn't be so hard but usually one outfit change a day is not enough with them.  We have to be prepared....    As I was shopping for Sarah it struck me once again how we as a culture try and make our little girls grow up way too fast!  Since she is out of the toddler section for good, I'm seeing the 6-14 size section and it is annoying.  I did find two sweet and warm outfits.  Since we are in Florida, even our winter clothes are made pretty thin.  Having kids that have some tactile  issues, I have to feel inside clothes to make sure they are as soft inside as outside.  I'm truly thinking of putting Sarah in PJ's for the trip, nice warm ones with feet, so she'll stay warm.  I know it will be challenging in NY and very cold.

Tomorrow is the Grace Church Christmas Play 2014-  11Am!  If you are in the area, please feel welcomed to come!  We will be having a luncheon following the play also.

Sorry the pictures are all wooky.....not sure what is going on, I can't see them as I type to tell you what is what.....

Bonati Spine Institute 's gift to Selah!

What a great day for Selah and our whole family!  Dr. Alfred Bonati, of the Bonati Spine Institute, gave us a van to be modified for Selah's use!  We went over this morning, the kids, me and our nurse and met with his staff as we waited for him to finish surgery.  The staff were all so gracious to us and the kids had a great time while we waited.  There were lots of snacks so you know they were happy, although a few might have had Cheetoo colored  teeth & hot chocolate breath! :)   Dr Bonati present us with the keys to a van filled with stuffed toys.   He is such a kind and generous man.  We felt so much love and support from him and his entire staff.  What a way to begin the Christmas season

the above is a link to a story Bay News 9 did about this wonderful gift

Here is the Bonati Spine Institute's blog-they will be posting pictures from today at some point
http://blog.bonati.com/

Today was a historic day for our family.  It is the very first time I've gone out with all five of the children since the accident.  Jon was unable to come but our nurse came with us so we'd be able to bring Selah and I'm so glad we were able to do so.

After we left the Institute, we stopped to eat out.  Again that was the first time we'd taken Selah to a restaurant since the accident.  Of course she did not eat, but I think its good for her to be out some.  Before today she only went out for doctor's appointments, and of course to church but since we live so close, that's not really going out.  We did take her once to the first work day at the house but that has been it for over two years.

Once we get the new van modified for her wheelchair, we plan on going out quite often with her.  She did so good today, and is sleeping quite soundly right now:)

We are so grateful for this normalcy to be returned to our family.  It's going to be great to be able to just roll her in to the van and go......   It's so much safer for her, as she will be able to stay in her wheelchair and it will hook into bolts on the floor.  It's also safer for her not to have to be lifted from the bed to the wheelchair and then from the wheelchair to the van....  Now we will be able to put her in the wheelchair beside her bed and she will be able to be wheeled into the van and stay in her chair until we get back home to her room.  Plus this will be safer for all of us who transport and lift Selah.

As I was talking with some of the staff today, I shared how hard the past 2.5 years have been....but I also shared how very faithful God has been to us AND how so many have come along side of us to lift the burdens off our shoulders.  No one can completely change our situation BUT we've had so many help us to walk through it.    This new van will make ours and Selah's lives so very much easier!

The van will be modified for her and we will deal with all of that once we get back from our NY trip.    Selah will not be going with us since it is such a long hard trip.  We are going for Sam's and Sarah's eye appointments & it's the only time that we can be fit into the schedule, over Christmas!   I'm really working on trying not to dread the trip.  I'd always looked forward to going to NY for Sam's eye appointments but now to be gone over the holidays and to have to deal with all the emotions that come with revisiting the area where the accident happened.....it's not easy....  But I'm sure God will give me the grace to deal with it all.

So thank you again to Dr Bonati!   I'm not sure I was able to express to you how much this van for Selah is appreciated by our family!!  But it will be life changing!

BTW....I'm not quite sure how that quote about "going to the flea market" got in LOL!  Our nurse and I had often said we'd both like to go to the world famous Webster Flea Market.....and we did say we'd go one day with Selah just to walk her around there.  BUT that is not the main thing we'd use the van for LOL!!!!!!!     I did talk about taking Selah to church once we move and to a handicapped accessible park ....NOT just to a flea market!!!!   My friends are all laughing at me!

Our Angela in Ukraine

We got a report on "our girl" Angela the child we sponsor in Ukraine.  We had the opportunity to spend time with her when we were adopting our girls.  She is a beautiful soul.  At the time, she could not even sit up but in the past 2 years, she has come a long way.  Right after we adopted the girls, she was transferred to the orphanage Druz ( the one we raise money for)  There she received therapy and better care despite being in a war zone.  We pay $40 a month for her to have an individual care giver Monday- Friday.  Obviously it helps Angela but it also helps a local women to be able to have a job.  This caregiver works with her, ensures she gets fed, changed bathed etc.....   Both of our girls had an individual caregiver through Life2Orphans.  We truly believe it made a difference in their lives.  I'm not sure that Sarah would be alive if it were not for L2O......

You can also sponsor a child through Life 2 Orphans.  I can say with 100% certainty that they are a great organization and do what they say they will do!   We have personally seen them in action, day after day!  I don't put my money or confidence in an organization unless I trust it and I trust L2O.  They have many children that need a sponser.  You can go to their various sites or contact the director personally....

 Face book page     https://www.facebook.com/Life2Orphans
 web site     http://www.life2orphans.org/cms/

the website it a bit hard to find things on but they don't waste a lot of money on websites!  They spend their money on the kids.  I don't think anyone in the US gets a salary with their organization.

This Christmas season, I would like to encourage you to give to this wonderful compassionate organization that does so much for the children left behind......  the ones that will never have a family, are shown love and given help through L2O!!!!   I'm so thankful for all they have done over the past decade with the orphans in Ukraine.  I'm doubly thankful for what they did for our girls and for what they do for Angela.

I wish we had adopted Angela.  Right now, it would be almost impossible for anyone to adopt her as she is in the Donetsk region & travel there is dangerous.  I pray that she will be adopted.  She needs so much help still, although she has come a long way.  Please pray for her health and safety along with the other children there in Ukraine!!

(really hope the pictures are not wooky.....LOL they don't look right on this page to me!)

Haha!  Jon taking a pretend shower at the new house
We drove by Sunday- he hadn't been there for a couple of weeks and was pleasantly shocked!
In fact I did not notice on Saturday that our shower was built.
I'm so appreciative of our contractors, originally a small shower with a door was to be put in but I can not handle those!
I have a real phobia and a real reason...
on one of our early anniversaries, we stayed in a beautiful hotel right on the beach.
The shower was one with a door....
and while I was taking a shower, the water went from normal to boiling and I could not get out of there!!!!   I was so upset and can't stand those showers ever since!
So I'm so glad the guys were able to help me and my phobia out!!!!!
They built it with walls and a small opening, I'll just have to cut down a shower curtain to fit it which will be fine:)

Work Day

Another work day at the house!  We were only there for a few hours but it was great to see the HH staff and meet all the volunteers who came by to work.  I did find out today our target date to move in is Mid March.  In the beginning the idea was floated that it would be done by Christmas or early January.  But I think just the size alone, will add extra time.  As anxious as we are to get moved in, it seems like things are going very fast.  Part of the roof will be delivered Tuesday and then the rest of it will come on the 22nd.   Once that happens, the windows and doors will be put in and the house can be locked up.

Well tonight is a movie night for the Fam and I'm ready for a nice hot shower.  For some reason I just ache all over, there are days like this and then all the pain goes away.  It seems the more I take my walks, the less pain I have.  I've not been on schedule this week, which is a SHAME!  I can tell the difference.  Jon went out this afternoon walking, I should have made myself go with him, I'm sure I'd be feeling MUCH better if I had!

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

A Stalking we will go.....

Ok I REALLY try NOT stalking the new house.  But the kids always want to go by it...that's my story at least.  We went by today and wow- it 's a house!!!   It seems like the house is progressing so fast.  But of course we can hardly wait till it's finished!

So I can't see the pictures as I blog but they always show up when I post.  How odd! But as you can see all the outer wood walls are up and the windows are all cut out.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So many thoughts going through my brain right now.  One thing I'm thinking about is my gratefulness to God for all He has given me.  My husband and children fill my heart more than I could have ever imagined when I was younger and so alone.  I never dreamed I'd have so many people to love.  I believe every good gift comes from God and they all have been "good gifts".  No matter what lies ahead, I am so blessed that I've had them with me.  Every night I thank God for what He has given me in them.

Often I write quite interesting blogs in my head that never make it to the blog....LOL  otherwise I might have to hire a few body guards!  I've been writing a few lately IN MY HEAD only but one or two might make it on here if I ever get the time.

Another thing is I'm FREAKING out about our upcoming trip to NY.  We've not gone back as a family since we left there December of 2012-two years ago.   I found it very hard emotionally when I flew up with Sam in 2013 and I'm dreading the whole emotional thing it may bring up.  Chances are we will stay in the same room that we spent 5 months in.

If you've not figured it out yet, I'm not one who likes to deal with emotions.  I deal by pushing things down and going on with life.  Don't knock it, it works.....that's how I get through life.  I do not dwell on things or I should say I don't deal on things for long.  Personally I do not think it is too healthy.  So I do not let myself be put into emotional situations if I can help it.  Obviously I can't help this.  Sam must be seen by Dr A and Sarah needs to be seen too.  It is way cheaper for us all to drive up together than to fly.  Plus this way the boys (Shad and Steve will come too)

Traveling over the Christmas holiday is totally stressful in and of itself!  I'm worried about snow, ice and other drivers!!   The only good thing is we are all looking forward to seeing our NY friends and making sure all is well with Sam and Sarah's eyes.

Sarah is being seen because her eye seems to be shrinking and it's often blood red.  I'm also afraid of what that might mean to her tiny bit of sight.

Well I think I'll go and take one of my anxiety pills tonight!!!!!  LOL.....  I've not taken one for months but it sounds like a good idea now!

I would certainly appreciate prayers about this upcoming trip!
